Two factions are affected by this social standing ranking system:Raiders and Settlers.
Each faction has its own set of quests that earn you RP with that faction.

What Rewards Do You Get For Raising Your Reputation Levels?
Raising your Fallout 76 reputation levelsopens up a wider market of goods and other useful wares for that faction.
Additionally,ranking up with a faction unlocks exclusive vendorsthat sell faction-themed blueprints for items.
Some of the Plans include:
Samuelis the settlers' special trader, whileMortimerservices the raiders' community.
Molly, another exclusive vendor, can be found at the raider’s base in the Crater as well.
These ‘Plans’ and many otherscan be bought withGold Bullion currency.
